Sherlock’s “A Month in the Life” ..... If anyone has wondered what I get up to day by day with my own horse Sherlock, this is a month in the life of a very busy Sherlock, day by day as we start our event season.... it is a balance getting Sherlock schooled and fit around a full time job and teaching.
Saturday1 May, Sherlock had his two hours in the tasty lush field, then was swapped to be turned out for a few hours more on the sand school. And that was that! Funny this month should start like this as Sherlock is generally VERY hard working, as you will see........
Sunday 2 May,I started with just 20 minutes schooling at home in our magic dressage saddle, schooling Sherlock with my reins in my left hand only. This is because
March has been a mixed month. We finally got to start jumping, and it felt FAB, but almost as soon as we started Sherlock just felt a bit “wrong”. Not lame, but “wrong”. You can imagine the shock/horror, we relaxed the work schedule, had treatments of daily massage, a magnet rug, arnica, TLC, and the visit of a Chiropractor.
Now we are fine again, the cause being he was sore in his left SI joint, I suspect as a result of a slip on a ground pole when we lunged-jumped the day before he started to feel “off”. We are once more ready to step the work back up. I have realised that
February has seen steady progress for Sherlock, we have started to add some schooling work to our hacking, and we even did a Dressage competition . The real learning for me this month, however, has been with the “Troll Bridge”.
We have met this bridge before, it is near to our Farrier in
January went WELL! We did all that enforced in-hand learning in the snow at the start, then the snow went, and we started hacking out (trail riding for my American friends!) to get fit.
Sherlock was turned away after the event season in late October, and just it was as we were about to start our hacking that the snow came. We still must do the
